Former U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios Says People Are Missing Out on Crypto Investments
In 2022, the crypto market boasts a $2 trillion value. Bitcoin is trading for more than $40k apiece, and blockchain penetrates almost every industry. So, is it too late to invest in crypto? According to Rosie Rios, former U.S. treasurer, and Harvard scholar, “the train has already left the station.”
Rios broke the “bad news” for those still hesitating to jump on the crypto wagon in a recent CNBC interview. The ex-treasurer in the Obama Administration is adamant that “blockchain technology is here” to stay, and those ignoring it are missing out.
Rios’ Crypto Investment Philosophy
Rios left her executive role in the U.S. Treasury in 2016, together with the end of the Obama Administration. Ever since she has developed a career in cryptocurrency besides building a substantial crypto portfolio. She is a board member for blockchain startup Ripple and CEO of real estate investment consulting firm Red River Associates. Additionally, she is part of the “Unicorn Hunters” show alongside co-stars Steve Wozniak and Lance Bass.
According to the CNBC interview, Rios advises people to try crypto investments. Even if that ship has sailed for many, she believes newcomers should start their portfolios with practical assets. In her mind, if a project has “room for growth,” then it could be a reliable venture.
With this in mind, Rios steers away from new assets like NFTs. Like other NFT opponents, she believes non-fungible tokens lack inherent value. She says:
Whether there is intrinsic value is very meaningful to me.
This is one of the reasons Rios accepted the role at Ripple. The company’s cryptocurrency, XRP, aims to facilitate cross-border payments faster and cheaper than traditional foreign exchange services.
It’s not just the future,” Rios says. “It’s already being used all over the world.
Rosie Rios Expects Bright Future for Crypto
Rios applauds the U.S. Federal Reserve and other regulators looking to bring more clarity to the crypto market. She hopes this sector will benefit from more transparent regulations in 2022 and beyond. Also, she foresees a time when banks and other financial institutions could legally handle cryptocurrencies.
Her hope for a safer U.S. crypto environment is not a mere investors’ whim. After all, Ripple is part of a long and ongoing lawsuit with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The cause of the dispute is the exact nature of XRP, which SEC wants to determine whether it is a virtual currency or a security. Should it decide for the latter, the cryptocurrency could be subject to intense regulatory scrutiny.
Nevertheless, Rios has every reason to expect better years ahead for the cryptocurrency industry. For instance, the crypto market has a capitalization exceeding $2 trillion. Additionally, it should increase by 50% in 2022 alone.
Furthermore, numerous significant companies have already entered the cryptosphere in one way or another. Some big players dipping their toes in the crypto sea include Microsoft, PayPal, Burger King, AMC, and WhatsApp.
For Rios and other expert financiers, 2022 is the year to invest in crypto. And, even if the train has left the station, maybe you can still board it on the go.
