Dapper Labs Officially Launches First NFL-Focused Video Collectible Platform
After months of private beta testing, football-focused NFT marketplace NFL All Day has finally opened its doors.
NFL All Day is the first of its kind for football fans, and is similar to the marketplace NBA Top Shot which is targeted at a basketball audience.
The new NFT platform emerged via a collaboration between the National Football League (NFL), the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), and blockchain company Dapper Labs.
NFL All Day Now Open to Traders
Dapper first shared plans for the platform in September last year; an alternative to NBA Top Shot, but for football fans. While this is the official release, NFL All Day initially debuted in December last year. This was a soft launch that saw the product remain in closed beta until now.
The marketplace operates on the Flow blockchain and provides users with a similar experience to Top Shot. Likewise, this is another one of Dapper’s projects to exist on Flow as the network also supports its UFC Strike platform.
NFT All Day allows football and Web3 enthusiasts to trade tokens bearing officially licensed footage from the NFL. The platform offers collectibles featuring players and teams in the league, as well as iconic moments in football history. A post on the NFL’s official site describes these moments as the “greatest and most sought-after NFL plays throughout the season.”
Next-Generation Star Patrick Mahomes Becomes Ambassador
Interestingly, NFT All Day has brought Patrick Mahomes onboard the project as their main ambassador. Mahomes is the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. The SuperBowl champion will be the face of the marketplace in a bid to promote the launch and the platform itself. Hence, most of the ads for NFT All Day will be centered around the star athlete.
Notably, this is not his Mahome’s first time participating in the NFT industry. The next-generation player has made millions in the past selling his own Ethereum-based NFT artwork. Mahomes expressed excitement to be part of the platform saying he’s “passionate” about tech-based developments and how they bolster the fan experience.
Redefining the Fandom Experience
Joe Ruggiero, Senior Vice President for Consumer Products at the league, also spoke on the rollout. Ruggiero welcomed football fans globally to the platform. According to the executive, NFT All Day reintroduces the fandom experience by incorporating NFTs into the sport.
Ruggiero also brought up the soft launch last year and its role in attracting collectors early on.
Last year’s soft launch of NFL ALL DAY brought in a surge of early adopters who began collecting video highlight NFTs of NFL plays, and we plan to grow the number of users significantly with the official launch of the platform, especially with the addition of Patrick Mahomes as our athlete ambassador.”
NFL All Day’s first public drop will take place on Friday, August 19. The platform will release a pack of tokenized video highlights called “Headliners” to mark the official launch. This collection will include Legendary-rank moments with plays from stars Tom Brady, Jalen Ramsey, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and others.
NFL All Day has gone live just ahead of 2022’s NFL Season. The league has expressed hopes for success to match NBA Top Shot’s, helping them generate income and increase fan engagement.
